About Ken

Gayla and Ken

With almost 40 years of pastoral ministry, Ken Schroeder still has a burning desire to see people’s lives changed through the gospel. This passion drives him to plant a new congregation in Abita Springs called SweetWater Church.

Ken grew up on a farm just outside of Burkburnett, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Gayla, in 1975. They have four married children and eight grandchildren.

Ken graduated from Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Texas, (BSE, 1982) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, (MDiv, 1985, DMin,1989). Ken writes Bible study materials regularly for LifeWay Christian Resources. In the past few years, he has traveled in West Africa, East Asia, Belize, Greece, Turkey, and Israel.

In addition to his pastoral ministry, Ken and his son, Travis, started a home improvement business in 2019 called Schroeder and Sons, LLC. Ken recently resigned from his teaching position at Fontainebleau Junior High where he taught science for a couple of years.

Other stuff that might interest you (or maybe it won’t): Since 2004 Ken has been known as the “voice of Bulldogs” at Fontainebleau High School serving as the announcer for football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball. He also announces minor league football games for the Bayou Lacombe Cardinals of the Amateur to Professional Development Football League (APDFL), which plays a spring season each year.
