After five preview services (once a month since Easter Sunday), we’re pleased to say that we sense the Holy Spirit’s continued leadership at SweetWater Church of Abita Springs.
Our services always include a spirit of anticipating God’s movement as we worship Him.

Throughout the summer months, we saw different people attend the services. We knew that building any momentum would be difficult as we met every four to five Sundays. However, since our launch on September 12, our attendance has continued to increase. At the conclusion on the service on October 31, we had our first baptisms.

Natalie Cowell is baptized as her mother, Aimee, and sister, Sarah, watch with joy. Sarah was also baptized.

SweetWater Church thanks Bridge Church of Madisonville for its sponsorship, along with the Northshore Baptist Association and the Louisiana Baptist Convention. We seek to connect people with Christ and His mission. We go about this through simple practices which begin with saying “Yes” to Jesus’ call to follow Him everyday. When we come to faith in Christ, this means that we commit to follow Him every day.

We also practice believing prayer. We believe that the Lord will hear us and answer our prayers as we align our lives with Him. We urge our members to share the gospel with everyone, everywhere. We make time in our services for instructing and training believers to share their faith with others.

From the beginning of our church, we have instilled in our members the idea of gathering around the Word of God through multiplying groups that meet in home throughout the community. SweetWater Church began by meeting in the pastor’s home about a year ago. We believe that the congregation will grow more effectively through similar home groups.

Another hallmark of the simple practices we follow include meeting in a local recreation center. As we utilize existing community space for worship and equipping, we can invest more resources in our community for ministry and missions. We are grateful to our partners at the Abita Springs Recreation Center for allowing us to rent the gym and classroom space.

We have learned many lessons having gone through five pre-launch services and now two months of weekly meetings. Setting up for the services in a gym do not take us nearly as long as they did in the beginning. Our greatest growing pains have come in the area of music. We have some talented musicians who provide a great sound for our services; however, we have not found someone who wants to provide leadership to this area of our ministry. We trust that the Lord will lead us to the one gifted to carry out this responsibility.

  2. John LeBlanc says:

Bro Ken, Thank you for sharing and doing the work of the Lord. I am grateful to the Lord for you and your support and love of THE Lord. Praise be to the God of heaven and earth.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭127:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/psa.127.1-2.NKJV
